Ho.. ly.. crap… This looks amazing, and every bit as dark and violent as the Netflix show that spawned 4 companion spin-off shows AND a one-shot limited series so they could all team up. While there were some weak points across those shows – some seasons shining more than others – the entire scope was incredible and unprecedented. And then Disney+ was announced, and the shaky future of those shows became even less likely to continue.
But as we’ve seen in both “Spider-Man: No Way Home” on the big screen and “She-Hulk: Attorney At Law” on the small screen, Charlie Cox’s portrayal of Matt Murdoch can’t be stopped. It can be restructured, though. This pseudo-reboot was originally going to retain Charlie Cox for the role, but shift the character itself to a different variant of the one we already got to know. As well, the show was going to ditch Foggy and Karen (Elden Henson and Deborah Ann Woll, respectively) and serve up a much more light-hearted feel. To all of these ideas, the fans rejected. And while I don’t think listening to what the fans think they want is always the best plan, sometimes you have to realize that the original plan just completely missed the mark for what the character means to the people watching. Ugly Sonic, anyone?
Of note: the original plan for the reboot was a giant (by today’s standards) season of 18 episodes. That has since shifted to the promise of at least 2 9-episode seasons. What we have on display in this first trailer is gritty and visceral and raw and I can’t wait to watch. But when I say Jessica Jones better show back up again for this, I mean it with every fiber of my being.
Will you be watching on March 4th?
