Festive Dangers For Pets During The Holidays

Getting in the festive spirit includes but not limited to decorating the house with poinsettias. The finishing touches on the Christmas tree may include tinsel. Lighting up a yummy gingerbread smelling candle. All of which can be harmful to pets, dogs and cats alike!

Poinsettias produce a sap that dogs/cats lick and can get sick. Emergency vet visit not necessary (in most cases) however the animals will experience vomiting and diarrhea.

Tinsel topper for the tree pretty but not ideal. The plastic has been known to get stuck in animals throats, causing chocking and in some cases vomiting.

Candles and essential oils may contain toxins not good for animals. Will induce vomiting or worse a trip to the emergency vet. I had an air diffuser in my place and 3 days later it was still lingering in the air. Couldn’t figure out why Booya (my dog) was puking. It dawned on me that the oils were still in the air she was breathing in.

Other potential dangers;
Glass baubles
Pine needles
Turkey bones
Fireplace
